Description
This hand-block-printed cotton textile would make a great throw blanket, bedspread, table cover, or wall hanging. Creating Ajrakh (or Ajrak) block print textiles is an ancient craft from Kutch, Gujarat. It is a highly regarded, labor-intensive process that uses natural, vegetable and mineral-based colors.
Unlike direct printing, the Ajrakh method involves a unique resist-dyeing and repeated printing process with hand-carved wooden blocks. The entire process can involve 14 to 16 different stages of dyeing and washing. The fabric is made from soft, hand-spun cotton.
This one-of-a-kind handmade piece of textile art was made in India circa 1970s and is made from 100% cotton fabric. Still in great condition.

Items may be visibly faded, distressed, typical of age, and consistent with most of the textiles in stock, which distinguishes them from the newer, mass-produced textiles made for the tourism and import markets. Most items show some discoloration, wear, missing patches of embroidery or mirrors, and faint stains in some cases.
