Veil of Vintage was preceded by Maharani Imports, a highly successful import business founded in Texas in the late 1960s by husband-and-wife business partners Ratilal (Ray) and Bonny. They hand-selected vintage items from many villages during their regular visits to India & elsewhere around the world and imported them to the United States.
Their company supplied items to the Dallas Museum of Art, and Sea World & Bazaar Del Mundo in San Diego were a few of their regular customers. The company sometimes supplied costume pieces for TV shows, and Hollywood actress Julia Roberts was even photographed wearing one of their company’s imported necklaces! Maybe you’ve heard of Noah bells, the hand-crafted cowbells from India, typically made from copper and other metals– they were popularized in the U.S. by Maharani Imports and named after Bonny & Ray’s son, Noah.
Their business operated until 2008. Now the remaining inventory is being sold by Noah and his wife, Stephanie.
We hope to give these handmade pieces their second life with new owners who will appreciate not only the items’ beauty and uniqueness but also the countless hours that went into handcrafting them and the traditions they honor.
