Description
This handmade vintage woven batik fabric has intricate geometric tribal motifs. The fabric is created using resist-dye techniques and natural dyes. Batik is a wax-resist dyeing technique for fabric, where melted wax is applied to cloth to prevent dye absorption, creating intricate patterns. The process involves preparing the fabric, applying wax with a canting (pen) or cap (stamp), dyeing, and removing the wax with boiling water. This often-repeated process produces detailed, multi-colored designs.

Items may be visibly faded, distressed, typical of age, and consistent with most of the Indian wall hangings in stock, which distinguishes them from the newer, mass-produced textiles made for the tourism and import markets. Most items show some discoloration, wear, missing patches of embroidery or mirrors, and faint stains in some cases.
