Description
This hand block-printed cotton textile would make a great throw blanket, bed runner, table cover, or wall hanging.
This one-of-a-kind handmade piece of textile art was made in India circa 1970s and is made from soft 100% cotton fabric. Creating Ajrakh (or Ajrak) block print textiles is an ancient craft from Kutch, Gujarat. It is a highly regarded, labor-intensive process that uses natural mineral and vegetable-based dyes.
Unlike direct printing, the Ajrakh method involves a unique resist-dyeing and repeated printing process with hand-carved wooden blocks. The entire process can involve 14 to 16 different stages of dyeing and washing. The fabric is made from soft, hand-spun cotton.
Still in great condition, though there is a small area near the edge with holes (see photos).

Items may be visibly faded, distressed, typical of age, and consistent with most of the textiles in stock, which distinguishes them from the newer, mass-produced textiles made for the tourism and import markets. Most items show some discoloration, wear, missing patches of embroidery or mirrors, and faint stains in some cases.
