This rare Guatemalan Huipil is a classic bohemian garment. This is a hand loomed, cotton poncho woven in many colors. Very soft with great patina, white is now more of an off white with some small stains typical of age and wear. Shape is rectangular, head opening has a v-notch in the front.
Width: Approx. 47 inches from side to side
Length: Approx. 16.75 inches from top to bottom when worn
The head opening measures approximately 8″ across
Estimated to be from the 1960s.
Items may be visibly faded, distressed, typical of age, and consistent with most of the textiles in stock, which distinguishes them from the newer, mass-produced textiles made for the tourism and import markets. Most items show some discoloration, wear, missing patches of embroidery or mirrors, and faint stains in some cases.
