Description
Traditional handmade 100% wool Tangaliya Shawl from Gujarat, India.
This item is an example of the 700-year-old indigenous craft which is native to the Surendranagar district of the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. This wool shawl could be used as a wall hanging, sofa throw, tablecloth, bed runner, or repurposed in a textile project.
The type of textile was usually used as shawls, wraps, or skirts by women of the Bharwad Gopalak community of the Wankaner, Amreli, Dehgam, Surendranagar, Joravarnagar, Botad, Bhavnagar and Kutch areas
The shawls are woven in pit looms at homes and knot a contrast color thread with the warp, which are woven into the textile to create the effect of raised dots, which have become the signature style of the textile. Besides dots, geometric patterns like circles, straight lines, hyperbolic or parabolic designs etc. are also created
CONDITION: This textile seems to be VERY old. There are holes throughout. Though I gave it a few shakes and used a lint roller, it is “shedding” small bits and I would expect whenever you open it, after it has been tousled through the mail, there may be a bit of a mess.
Width: Approx. 43 inches
Height: Approx. 108 inches
Weight: 2lb, 11.9oz
Sourced from Gujarat, India.
