Handmade tribal ceremonial Rabari Chotlo Hair Ornament from India. Intricately crafted with beads, buttons, and colorful tassels.
Made circa 1960s-1970s. Sourced from Gujarat, India.
Approx. 12 inches in length x 8.5 inches in width.
The ornate art of this kind created by the Rabari people is often linked to ceremonial purposes, including weddings, festivals, and rites of passage. These intricate pieces, made with tiny beads, often tell stories or represent various symbols, beliefs, and deities. The designs can symbolize protection, fertility, spiritual well-being, and prosperity. The Rabari people’s ancestral origins are in Mount Kailash in Tibet. They resettled to Kutch by way of Kashmir and Afghanistan.

Items may be visibly faded, distressed, typical of age, and consistent with most of the Indian textiles in stock, which distinguishes them from the newer, mass-produced textiles made for the tourism and import markets. Most items show some discoloration, wear, missing patches of embroidery or mirrors, and faint stains in some cases.
