Description
Vintage Dowry Bag with Embroidery from Gujarat, India, made with 100% cotton fabric. It is expertly crafted with needlepoint work and is still in fairly good condition. Embellished with hand embroidery. This piece is estimated to have been made circa 1970s-1980s. Some mirrors are missing.
Bags like this were used as part of the dowry and to pack gifts during wedding ceremonies and other festivities.

Items may be visibly faded, distressed, typical of age, and consistent with most of the Indian wall hangings in stock, which distinguishes them from the newer, mass-produced textiles made for the tourism and import markets. Most items show some discoloration, wear, missing patches of embroidery or mirrors, and faint stains in some cases.
