Description
Vintage floss silk thread hand-embroidered fabric/shawl sourced from India. The embroidery is on somewhat coarse hand-woven cotton. This item looks like a phulkari but (to me) doesn’t look anything like the traditional styles of phulkaris. It’s gorgeous in person and looks to be very high quality but there are some missing patches of embroidery and some pulls that seem to be mostly concentrated in one area (see photos). is estimated to be from the 1960s-1970s.

Items may be visibly faded, distressed, typical of age, and consistent with most of the Indian wall hangings in stock, which distinguishes them from the newer, mass-produced textiles made for the tourism and import markets. Most items show some discoloration, wear, missing patches of embroidery or mirrors, and faint stains in some cases.
